“To go in the dark with a light is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,
and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings
and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.”
- Wendell Berry
With one webbed foot in dance performance, and clawed paw in the realm of nature documentary, “webwoorm” straddles and blurs the line between these two mediums. Nocturnal creature-dancers selectively reveal and obscure their natures through practices of echolocation, narration, light, shadow, and biomimicry. The work was mostly visible to the naked eye, but invisible to the digital camera, and thus the performance eschewed video documentation. The work features a live electronic score made of manipulated frog calls, developed and performed by the aptly named Raccoon.
